NZUA people

The NZUA relies heavily on volunteers who are love being in and around New Zealand’s marine and aquatic environments. You can find out more about our people below.

 

 

Tristan Reynard – President

Tristan brings significant volunteer and sports management experience to NZU Board. He is a past president of Underwater Hockey New Zealand (UWHNZ) as well as being UWHNZ’s schools development officer.  In the role of schools, Tristan created the Schools qualifying tournaments, U18 Interzone Championships and oversaw the development of Mini UWH Tournaments in Wellington.  After his successful restructuring of UWHNZ, Tristan has been appointed to the CMAS Underwater Hockey Commission and holds the World Tournament Director position

Tristan has gained experience in submitting funding applications to Pub Charities for UWHNZ as well as Camp Quality Central where Tristan held the position of companion coordinator, funding and transport.

Tristan’s day to day employment is as the Manager, Civil Engineering and Infrastructure at CentrePort (Port of Wellington).  Tristan leads a team five staff as well as consultants looking after the Port’s infrastructure and marine structures. Mr Reynard is a graduate of University of Canterbury and a Chartered Professional

Andy Stewart – Board Member

Andy’s diving experiences initially began snorkeling as a 7 year old hanging on to his father’s spearfishing float line while towed around places like Cape Brett in the Bay of Islands.  After completed a CMAS scuba diving course while at school, Andy got the scuba diving bug and has now been diving for over 20 years.

With a passion for introducing people to the underworld he eventually became a PADI dive instructor and in 2014 a PADI Course Director, PADI’s highest recreational instructor rating.  Andy has his roots in Northland, strong links to the Wellington dive scene having worked there as an Instructor initially and since 2010 in Auckland. Andy is also a strong advocate for environmental awareness and actively engages and promotes Project AWARE activities. The Project AWARE Foundation is a growing movement of scuba divers protecting the ocean planet, focusing on fighting marine debris and conservation of threatened species.

When not blowing bubbles Andy works as the GM Information & Technology for the Selwyn Foundation who are a non for profit Aged Care organization.

Matthew Nutter – Board Member

Matthew has been diving since 1986, enjoying all aspects of diving from exploring wrecks, to hunting and gathering, and also just being underwater seeing and experiencing the wonders that lie within.

Matthew has been involved in the re-grouping of NZ underwater resources, playing an active role in the NZUA Forum, scubadive.net.nz
